Sony bigwigs go bragging to everyone who will listen that "Burlesque," the new Christina Aguilera and musical starring Cher-Screen Gems, is one of the films of all time, the study further evidence. But rumors of the entertainment world of film circuit has been nothing but bad, especially after the Hollywood reporter Kim Masters stepped in with a knockout of a story about production problems. The work focused on the drama between racks Screen Gems chief Clint Culpepper and his former partner, Steven Antin, who directed the film. Hiring partner was a bad idea when former Paramount chief Sherry Lansing's used to make films with her husband, Billy Friedkin to direct. And still today a bad idea, especially after the news was paired with a series of amazing fights on the set, including one where Culpepper poured iced tea on the head of Antin. It seemed a good bet that the reviews for the film, which opens on Wednesday, would be miserable, especially after Sony took full-page ads last Sunday charged with praise of advertisements, so people never heard of talk. Critics call that called the film "must" and "high-energy party" includes such notables as Jami Philbrick of MovieWeb.com, Fred Topel of ScreenJunkies.com, Jim Ferguson, ABC and Brand KGUN9 S. Allen Reelz Channel Network. After waiting to hear from a known source, which was awarded Tuesday by The New York Observer, Rex Reed, who has been writing reviews since acid tongue Sean Connery was James Bond and Donald Trump had a military haircut. But Rex has outdone himself this time. In his review, says Aguilera singing "sounds like pig calling," says his big strip number with ostrich feathers is the "toe stolen the little finger of an old routine of Sally Rand" and dismisses the film director beset with its own little movement, noting that "it is highly unlikely that the writer and director Steven Antin could lead dune buggies in the desert of Sahara." As for the movie itself? Reed writes: "The trash comes in all forms, but rarely in a sequined thong That's all there is to a brain dead, cliché-ridden pastiche of old movie called Betty Grable." Burlesque. "This is strictly for Cher fans who like their antics Campy loud, obscene and ridiculous. But the biggest problem among many is that it is his movie. She's just there. Instead of an excuse to breathe the oxygen in the twilight of the careers of Cher, who happens to be a slut pasteup built from the saliva and chewing gum to show the start of the film's caterwauling Christina Aguilera .... This movie is so bad it makes you realize how much I miss you 'Showgirls'. " So far "Burlesque" is a lowly 36 on Rotten Tomatoes, which could fall even lower, when most of the mainstream press seems to weigh in, if I can channel Rex for a moment, unless there is a real weakness for kitschy camp, wearing masks industrial power, this is the kind of turkey should be avoided at Thanksgiving.
